Is it best to rent a house or condo in one place and travel back and forth from there or stay in hotels in each city I visit?

i would rent like a cheap little apartment or condo. hotels might be more expensive and with hotels ur not always sure if theyre booked up or not :) but with an apartment or condo youlll have a place to crash no matter what.

Many of the major cities are not exactly close. If you get a condo.....you still need to travel quite a bit to get to all the major cities.....and some overnights will surely be required, unless you plan on running around like a mad loon, to get back "home" every night........that sounds exhausting. I would advise, perhaps trying to divide your time into three places. renting a place each month in one section of the country. and then seeing what you can from there......and then moving on. Your Three jumping off points could be Milan, Rome and Palermo, for example. Or Genoa, Rome, and Venice....
