All of the cities in Italy are expensive places to live. The cost of living in cities all over the world tends to be high, and Italian cities are simply not cheap. Florence certainly isn't. The southern cities are cheaper, but if Florence and Venice are what you have in mind, then Naples and Palermo probably won't interest you as much. Though you should visit them eventually; you never know. You could scout out the small towns and villages near the cities and possibly find one from which you could commute, but in the meantime, I suggest learning as much about the country as you can, finding a way to study Italian -- perhaps in college, if your high school doesn't offer it -- and thinking about a profession that might make it possible for you to live in Italy. You've got plenty of time to make some decisions about that. Good luck. I lived in Italy and speak Italian, and I have friends who are permanent expatriate residents. They tend to be teachers and professors; some are successful professional artists.
