I have never been there but It' s obvious Italy is poorer than the US, The US is the most powerful and richest country in the world, so how move to Italy? I Know that Italians dream to live here....they love our accent and way of life, like all European people they are American addicted!!!

I've been living in Italy for the past ten years. It's generally more expensive here than in the US. My one bedroom apartment here (without air conditioning & no land) costs about the same as my four bedroom house in Colorado. US citizens living here still have to file income tax returns in the US as well as here in Italy and that can be quite expensive. The last time I was in the US (October), fuel prices were about half what they are here. It isn't easy to move here. You would need a visa in order to stay longer than 90 days in any 180 day period. The site for Italian visas is here: http://www.esteri.it/visti/home_eng.asp . EU citizens can legally move and work within the EU. Others need a visa to live or work here legally. Companies have to be able to demonstrate that there are no viable EU candidates for a job before they can get a work permit for a foreigner. This effectively limits available jobs to things requiring special education, skills, or experience. Right now, there aren't many jobs of any kind available, but hopefully that will be somewhat relaxed when the economy recovers. The expat websites are an excellent resource for researching this kind of move: http://www.expatitaly.com/ http://www.alloexpat.com/moving_to_italy_forum/ http://expatsinitaly.com/Old_Site/index.html

Jenna, from Italian girl MA VAFFANCU'LO! PS: sorry, we are very very very vulgar Italy is a very expensive country. The rent for a house in Rome is the most expensive, less in Milan or Napoles. To live in Italy very well, you have to gain 1000 รข‚¬ in a mouth... Trust me, Italy is one of the best country of the world. you will love!

I should say the cost of living in Italy is in the average level. I'm reading an article about the "cost of living in Italy for 2009" and I'm computing the cost and as for me to say, it's not expensive at all.
