Depends, if you are an EU citizen it's not a problem. If you aren't an EU citizen and you want to live and work in italy you need to have an employer sponsor you for a work visa. Which means you have to offer job skills which aren't sufficient supplied by EU citizens. They couldn't hire you if they could easily hire an EU citizen instead. So hopefully you have something to offer. Exact rules and regulations will depends on where exactly you want to live: http://www.interno.it/mininterno/export/sites/default/en/themes/immigration/On-stop-shops_immigration.html edit: The Italian Government changed its immigration law in June 2004 such that Italian families are currently allowed to hire only nationals from EU countries to serve as their aupair or nanny (source http://aupair-visa-italy.greataupair.com/)
