Hi, We are going to live in lucca for a month this June and I was wondering if anybody had any tips or recommendations on anything. We are renting a villa so we will spend most of our time on and around lucca. Thanks How to live in Italy?

lucca is a quet city with a very beautiful story and medieval monuments, english is almost understood but its better if you have a basic knowledge of italian language expecially in the rural areas Enjoy yourself :-)

You are going to enjoy yourself. Italy is beautiful, and Lucca and the surrounding area is magical; quiet, interesting with history and art. Plan your days carefully, with trips planed in the mornings and late afternoons/early evenings. Italians enjoy that wonderful concept of siesta... and most everything closes from noon until 3 or 4 each day. It is hard to find places to eat and shop during siesta. Get off the usual track and find the out of the way places. Italians love to share their country and customs with outsiders. I lived and taught in Italy for three years and found the people to be engaging and entertaining everywhere I went. While on a trip once to the north west coast of Italy we stopped for the night at a little seaside pensione, and as soon as the proprietor found out we were from America he invited my wife, daughter and I to dine with his family and refused our money to pay, though we were in his restaurant. He even gave us a bottle of wine from his private vineyard. Good luck. I hope you have a great time.
