Thinking of moving to Italy and live there permanently As an American citizen, how long do I have to reside in Italy to obtain dual citizenship?

Ten years, if you are an American citizen, unless you marry an Italian or are of recent Italian ancestry. Here is how it's done, according to the Embassy of Italy. Look under "HOW TO APPLY" item 3, Naturalizzazioni http://www.ambwashingtondc.esteri.it/Ambasciata_Washington/Menu/Informazioni_e_servizi/Servizi_consolari/Cittadinanza/

After 10ys you can APPLY, but it's not granted that you'll get it (even if it is most likely). Better if you marry an Italian woman :)
